Safe Canadian Casinos: our rating method

Seven criteria determine whether a Casino Rewards brand earns a place in our safe Canadian online casinos rankings. Return to player and game fairness come first because they are what every other safety claim ultimately rests on — a casino that quotes high return rates it cannot demonstrate is a casino that cannot be trusted on anything else. Each criterion below specifies what an editor does to test it, not just what we look for.
- Return to Player and Game Fairness. We read the published game information for at least three slot titles at each brand and record the RTP figure stated. We cross-reference each figure against the studio's published documentation for that title and confirm it matches the highest available certified variant. Table games are read separately: we check the published blackjack rules for the 3:2 natural payout and the live dealer rules for house edge information. A brand where the majority of sampled slots fall below 96% RTP, or where blackjack pays 6:5, does not pass this criterion regardless of its performance elsewhere.
- Regulatory Licence Standing. Before any other test begins, we search the Kahnawake Gaming Commission's public register at gamingcommission.ca using the licence number from the casino's footer. We confirm the status is active, the registered operating entity matches the domain, and the licence record is current at the time of review. A brand with no licence number in its footer, a number that returns no result in the register, or a record showing suspended or lapsed status is excluded from the rankings. No score in any other criterion compensates for a failed licence check.
- eCOGRA Seal Verification. We locate the eCOGRA Safe and Fair seal on each casino's home page or in its footer and click through to the eCOGRA confirmation page. We confirm the certification page shows the correct operator entity, a current audit date, and active status. A static badge that links nowhere, a page showing a different operator's name, or a certification page returning an error is treated as an absent seal. The eCOGRA seal is a group-level certification covering Casino Rewards brands and not a per-brand individual certificate — we note this distinction in each review.
- Banking Range and Withdrawal Processing. We read the published banking and withdrawal pages for each brand. We record the processing window stated in the casino's payment documentation and compare it with the published terms. We also confirm the full deposit method list and the full withdrawal method list against our verified catalogue. Deposit methods must include Visa, Mastercard, Interac, iDebit, ecoPayz, PaySafeCard, Neosurf, MuchBetter, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Instant Bank Transfer, and cryptocurrency. Withdrawal methods must include Visa, Mastercard, Interac, Echeck, Payz, Instadebit, MuchBetter, and Express Connect. A brand whose published withdrawal windows contradict its terms, or where any method from either list is absent, scores lower on this criterion.
- Responsible Play Tool Accessibility. We read the brand's responsible gaming pages to see whether the tools are described without needing live chat or email support. We confirm that deposit limits, session time limits, loss limits, and self-exclusion are all described as available directly. We check whether the published terms describe a deposit limit as taking effect without a waiting period. A brand where any of these controls requires a support request to activate, or where self-exclusion is absent from the dashboard, scores lower here. The presence and accessibility of these tools is checked before any recommendation is made — they need to be available before a player decides to use them, not after.
- Loyalty Programme Structure. We confirm the six-tier structure of the Casino Rewards programme is active and that Status Points and VIP Points accumulate on eligible wagers under the published programme terms. We verify that the VIP Points conversion rate is published, and that the Rewards Riches drop hub is described as available during play. We also read whether the published terms describe how a VIP Status Match request is made and what the eligibility conditions are. A programme that lacks published conversion rates or whose pages do not explain the Status Match process scores lower on this criterion.
- Support and Mobile Access. We read the published support channels and hours, including whether live chat is offered. We record which contact routes are listed; we do not time support responses. We then read the brand's published mobile pages for how the full casino (registration, game lobby and cashier) works in a mobile browser without a native app. We note whether the published pages say that deposits and withdrawal requests can be completed through the mobile browser. A brand that publishes no live chat or support hours, or whose mobile pages do not describe withdrawal requests, scores lower on this criterion.
Each brand in these rankings is assessed by a staff editor reading its published terms, FAQ and banking pages. The editor records the published RTP statements, notes the stated withdrawal processing window, reads the responsible gaming section, and reads the mobile pages. All observations are logged with dates and page captures before any rating is written. Ratings are revisited when game configurations, payment terms, or responsible gaming policies change.
This site earns referral commissions from Casino Rewards brands it lists. Those commissions do not determine which brands appear in the rankings or what position they hold. A brand that fails the regulatory licence check is excluded regardless of its referral value. Content on this site is intended for adults of legal age (19+, or 18+ in AB, MB, QC).
